iHow it is calculated

The tip is found by multiplying the bill by the percentage, and the total adds the tip to the bill:

tip = bill × percentage · total = bill + tip

On a 200 bill with a 10% tip: tip = 20, total = 220; split between 2 people = 110 each.

?Frequently asked questions

How much do you tip in Romania?

At restaurants, the usual tip is around 10% of the bill. For very good service you can leave 15% or more; tipping remains voluntary, though.

How is the tip calculated?

Multiply the bill by the tip percentage. For example, on a 200 bill with a 10% tip: 200 × 10% = 20, and the total to pay becomes 220.

Is the tip calculated before or after VAT?

The simplest approach is to tip on the total bill as it appears on the receipt. Some prefer to tip on the net amount — the difference is small.

How much do I tip on 100, 200 or 500?

At a 10% tip: 10 on a bill of 100, 20 on 200 and 50 on 500. At 15% the amounts become 15, 30 and 75.

Do you tip for delivery, taxis or coffee?

It is up to you. Many round up the taxi fare, leave a little for coffee or 5–10% for a courier. There is no strict rule, only customs.

Is tipping mandatory?

No, tipping is voluntary. Some venues add a “service charge” to the bill, in which case an extra tip is not necessary.

How do I split the tip between several people?

The calculator automatically divides the total (bill + tip) by the number of people, so everyone pays their share, including the tip.

What counts as a generous tip?

A tip of 15–20% is considered generous and is usually left for excellent service, special occasions or large, well-served groups.
