iHow it is calculated

The relation between speed, distance and time is fundamental. Knowing two values, you find the third:

v = d ÷ t · d = v × t · t = d ÷ v

At 300 km and 90 km/h, time = 300 ÷ 90 = 3.33 hours, that is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

?Frequently asked questions

What is the formula for speed, time and distance?

Speed = distance ÷ time. The others follow: distance = speed × time, and time = distance ÷ speed. It is the fundamental relation of uniform motion.

How long does a trip take at a given speed?

Divide distance by speed. For example, 300 km at 90 km/h = 300 ÷ 90 = 3.33 hours, that is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

What distance do I cover in a given time?

Multiply speed by time. For example, 90 km/h for 2.5 hours = 90 × 2.5 = 225 km.

How do I calculate average speed?

Divide total distance by total time. If you covered 240 km in 3 hours, the average speed is 240 ÷ 3 = 80 km/h, regardless of variations along the way.

How do I convert decimal hours to hours and minutes?

The whole part is the hours, and the decimal part times 60 gives the minutes. For example, 3.33 hours = 3 hours + 0.33 × 60 ≈ 20 minutes.

How do I convert km/h to m/s?

Divide by 3.6. For example, 90 km/h ÷ 3.6 = 25 m/s. Conversely, multiply m/s by 3.6 to get km/h.

Does the calculator account for stops and traffic?

No, it assumes constant speed (uniform motion). For a real trip, add extra time for stops, traffic and breaks.

How do I estimate my arrival time?

Calculate the travel time (distance ÷ speed) and add it to your departure time, plus a margin for breaks. On long trips, a 15-minute break every 2 hours is recommended.
